APRS
APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) can be used to monitor weather conditions and share local information. Many local iGates transmit severe weather warning packets directly from the National weather service. These warnings along with affected areas and warning polygons can be viewed real-time on your APRS client software. APRS messaging is also a helpful tool for relaying information to Net Control (if instructed by Net Control), or sending bulletins containing important information.
APRS objects can be added to the map to show the location of blocked roads and other hazards by a skilled operator. These objects go out over RF and can be viewed by APRS client software and APRS-capable radios. These are just a few of the ways that APRS can be integrated into SKYWARN activities.
