Amateur radio operators nationwide are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States with special on-the-air operating events and awards. Key programs include the year-long ARRL America 250 Worked All States challenge, tracked via Logbook of The World, and the global USA 250 Award hosted by QRZ.com.

America 250 Ham Radio Celebrations

ARRL America250 Worked All States (WAS)

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is hosting a year-long special operating event challenging hams to contact and confirm all 50 US states.

  • The Goal: Confirm a QSO with every state using any combination of CW, phone, and digital modes.
  • Tracking: Verified exclusively through ARRL’s Logbook of The World. Participants can also earn specialty endorsements by contacting W1AW (portable) stations in all 50 states or working ARRL Affiliated Club stations.

QRZ USA 250 Award

Open to all amateur radio operators worldwide, this milestone award is issued upon successfully logging and confirming 250 two-way contacts with US-based amateur radio stations.

  • Details: All contacts must be made during the current calendar year. You can track your progress and apply for the certificate directly via QRZ Awards.

ARRL Field Day

Field Day is the largest on-the-air operating event in North America, and the 2026 event is a centerpiece of the national America250 commemoration.

  • Date: June 27 – 28.
  • Theme: “Amateur Radio: A National Resource”. It emphasizes the role hams play in emergency communications and community service, with local clubs heavily participating to showcase the hobby to the public.
