ACTIVATION OF THE NET<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Monroe County Skywarn will activate (upon NCS availability) when MRX issues a weather warning for the county. Issued watches will put the net in standby mode, watches\/warnings will be announced, and reports will be taken in standby mode also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monroe County ARES Skywarn Net (when activated): 147.315MHz (+0.6, T141.3). Other monitored repeaters may include 145.250 KQ4HOM (MCARES backup), 146.940 WB4GBI, and 442.100 (TLARC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APRS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) can be used to monitor weather conditions and share local information. Many local iGates transmit severe weather warning packets directly from the National weather service. These warnings along with affected areas and warning polygons can be viewed real-time on your APRS client software. APRS messaging is also a helpful tool for relaying information to Net Control (if instructed by Net Control), or sending bulletins containing important information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APRS objects can be added to the map to show the location of blocked roads and other hazards by a skilled operator. These objects go out over RF and can be viewed by APRS client software and APRS-capable radios. These are just a few of the ways that APRS can be integrated into SKYWARN activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
